Critical Reflection

The Effective Communication Module was an enlightening learning opportunity. The professor, Prof. Brad Blackstone, introduced challenges to the students in coming up with a technical report for a mechanical design project idea and giving an oral presentation to the module's whole class. The intention was to help simulate what the students will encounter in future careers, which I feel was an excellent experience.  At the start of the module, the weaknesses I had mentioned in the first formal letter were overcoming anxiety for oral presentations, avoiding awkward pauses, and maintaining a constant pace when speaking. On the other hand, my goals were to gain skills to communicate with my colleagues what I wish to achieve with them from the project without being ambiguous. With Prof. Brad's guidance, the effective communication module has given several tasks to explore different writing forms during the lesson. The writing of design summary analysis has given me insight into how o

According to Jateff in the article "Introducing the Seabin Project" (2018), the Seabin works like a filter that captures the water with pollutants in it, separates them from the water, and makes it clean. Jateff stated that the Seabin requires an external power source that actuates a motor to "pump water to create a vortex", allowing the Seabin to suck in pollutants along with the water. The pollutants are then captured by a detachable "catch-bag", allowing only water to flow through. However, the bag cannot capture bulky objects. Jateff also mentioned that the Seabin could collect microplastic fibres and absorb "petroleum-based oils and detergents." Although the project team created the Seabin with recyclable materials, the project team wishes to make the catch-bag recyclable and improve the Seabin's power sourcing. Jateff explained the Seabin is limited by its size when efficiently collecting large-size garbage and a large amount. Although

Draft #1 Summary of Article titled: Introducing the Seabin Project

According to the article “Introducing the Seabin Project” (2018), the Seabin works like a filter that captures pollutants in the water, separates them from the water, and makes it clean. The article stated that the Seabin has its own power source that actuates a motor to “pump water to create a vortex”, making pollutants in the water get sucked into the Seabin. The pollutants are then captured by a “catch-bag”, allowing only water to flow through. However, it cannot capture bulky objects. The article also mentioned that the Seabin is able to collect microplastic fibers, and absorb “petroleum-based oils and detergents.” Although the Seabin is made with recyclable materials, the project team wishes to make the catch-bag recyclable, and improve the Seabin’s power sourcing.   Emily Jateff (2018).
